Northern Health Bus

northern health bus 1Saskatchewan is a vast province and sometimes healthcare needs to be delivered to people, rather than expecting them to visit facilities or doctors for information on cancer prevention or wellness.

The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency’s Prevention Department is reaching out to communities and people by using a mobile health bus that was funded by the Cameco Touchdown for Dreams Program.

The Cancer Agency works closely with northern community leaders and healthcare partners to bring the bus to several rural and remote areas from May to November.

Each community visited has different healthcare priorities ranging from colorectal cancer, HIV and hepatitis C testing, to blood sugar and blood pressure checks, from mental health counselling to elder and cancer survivor support lunch and learns, to education around cancer screening and prevention.
