At the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, patients and families are at the heart of all we do, and it takes a team of dedicated palliative care physicians, oncologists, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians and family doctors to ensure we are helping you manage the symptoms that may be caused by cancer or your treatment.
Pain and Symptom Management Clinics
Pain and symptom management is an important part of your care. Over the course of your treatment you may want different levels of assistance so your care will be based on your needs and will involve all the necessary individuals to help manage and coordinate the pain and symptoms you are experiencing.
You do not have to be part of a current palliative care program to be seen. You also do not need to be in current cancer treatment. Patients, family members or a healthcare provider can request a referral for a patient to the symptom management and palliative care clinic. Clinics are offered Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons at the Saskatoon Cancer Centre.
Pain and Symptom Management
Sometimes an illness and/or medications can result in side effects or symptoms – examples include: pain, fatigue and exhaustion, shortness of breath, coughs, diarrhea or constipation, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, anxiety and depression. These symptoms can be managed by our healthcare providers that have expertise in this area. Our goal is to work with you to manage your pain and symptoms and to help you make choices about your care. We will also assist you and your family to access resources in your community and coordinate care where necessary.
