The Saskatchewan Screening Program for Breast Cancer (SPBC) is a province-wide program for the early detection of breast cancer using screening mammography.
The SPBC provides screening mammograms to Saskatchewan women 50 years of age and older. The program screens between 36,000 and 37,000 women each year, detecting approximately 200 cancers.

Early Detection Saves Lives
One in nine Saskatchewan women will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. The greatest risk factors for developing breast cancer are being a woman, and getting older. Over 75% of breast cancers develop in women with no other risk factors.
There is no known method to prevent breast cancer. There are methods to detect breast cancer at the earliest possible stage of its development. Smaller stage cancers, found as a result of regular screening, means less invasive treatment and an improved life expectancy. |
